What Are My Responsibilities?

It is a good idea for you to submit the information requested of you to the Board as soon as possible. Gathering all of the information needed to support your claim can take some time. Hospitals, treatment providers and police services receive many requests. It can take a while before the required material is sent to the Board.

The quicker all requested information is sent to the Board, the quicker your application can be processed. It currently takes approximately two years to process a claim.

It is your responsibility to:

  • Ensure that a properly completed claim package is returned to the Board to begin the process.
  • Follow up with your treatment providers to ensure your records are returned to the Board.
  • Let the Board know when the criminal trial is completed, as court documents will be required for the file.
  • Make sure you inform the Board of any changes in your situation that may impact your claim such as changes in the injury/medical condition that resulted from the crime of violence for which you have filed the claim.
  • Keep your address and phone number up to date in order to prevent any delays.
